Does anyone have any advice or thoughts on Workaway? I have been doing some research, watching YouTube videos and reading up, however the website is quite overwhelming and not to sure where to start!
Any advice for a person using this for the first time? Any recommendations? I also want to try and do it with other people (so I'm not alone) to make friends as I am quite a social person.
Does anyone have any recommendations for places to work and travel? Perhaps similar to this site?
Thanks :)))

Make sure you read the reviews of where you want to go! You could read their whole profile and think wow, I wanna do this and then get to the reviews and they're mostly negative and you'll be glad you read them. You can search key words so, if you wanted to stay in a specific place within that country or area, you can type it in and most of the time, hosts with that word in their profile will appear! You just have to narrow it down and read carefully. I volunteered in an animal rescue in Cyprus, not Workaway but through a friend, and it was an amazing experience! I'm even going back later this year. I have also been somewhere that I didn't like so much. I just didn't fit in with the family, and it does happen. Workaway also has a feature where you can find a travel buddy! On your profile, all you have to do is put in your destinations and select that you want a travel buddy and you'll be visible to people going to the same places and wanting similar things. It works the other way round too where you can search through other people's profiles and find someone you think you would get on with. It's pretty cool. Just make sure you don't put super personal info on your profile like where you live and your number etc. There are other sites you can use, WWOOF is a popular one, but I find Workaway the easiest and simplest to use. You pay the yearly fee and get to browse hosts from all over the world and help out with a variety of things, whereas sites like WWOOF you have to pay for individual countries. Have fun!
I'm also thinking about doing a workaway sometime this fall, preferably on the Canary Islands... I haven't ever done it before though, so I'm at the same point you're at Hetta - would love to hear if someone else has recommendations or advice :)
Helpx is similar. Where would you like to go?
When I did it Australia there where a couple of places I really wanted to see so I looked for workaways near that. Otherwise search for what you think sound cool. For me for instance I searched for rainforest and boat trips.
My stay in the rainforest was so amazing! Definitely recommend that. It was half between Sydney and Byron bay.
The host on the boat one was terrible, but the other people were very nice. In hindsight I would have been able to figured that out and prevent myself for ever going there had I only asked him more questions. But oh well
