so after corona, I want to start my working holiday in Australia hopefully! I’m just trying to figure out the best time of year to do each part of my plan as I ideally want to do a loop, to avoid internal flights :)
Soooo, my plan is to, in any order, backpack the east coast, road trip the west coast, do my 88 days farm work (hopefully within the first 6 months as I’ve heard people can have issues!), and also work for a few months (I’m thinking Melbourne or sydeny but I’d appreciate any opinions!)
I would try and stick to the north of the country in the winter (may - oct) and then head south for the summer (Nov - April) so you get the best of the weather! For your plans I'd say if you have money right away then do a bit of travelling then you can meet people along the way and find your farmwork together.
I personally loved Sydney and didn't like Melbourne that much, but I also really loved Cairns - i think it just depends on what kind of work you'll be looking for.
I'd say don't plan too much, just figure out which way your headed and follow the seasons around, you can't go wrong!
Hey, I just came out in Feb as that was the best time that suited me and my circumstances. I would say it can get a bit colder from about June - September in the southern half of Australia because they do have a winter but the upper Eastern Coast is warm then too so its not too bad - it depends on where you want to be and what weather you prefer. As an ideal situation, I'd personally prefer to work on a farm in Winter or Spring in Queensland, as then its not too bad a temperature. A lot of people I met in Australia also took longer than 88 days to complete because of weather and circumstances, so just remember that too.
As a side note, I started my WHV in Australia in February but having been here for a while if I were to redo it, I'd come to Australia on a 3 month tourist visa and do all my main travelling, leave and go to maybe NZ, apply for my WHV then come back in and start applying for jobs to make the most of your time to work if thats your priority :) Employers would also prefer if you were able to work the max time your visa allows which is 6 months with one employer. If you arent too bothered either way, just do a WHV and its all in one :) Hope this helps!
Hey (: This question wasn't that easy to form a correct answer since it has so many different factors to it. You don't know where you'll find your farmwork so i can't give you the 'best season' for it. With the east coast its important to calculate jelly fish season in your itinerary because when you go surfing or just idk do stuff in the water you don't want to wear the sort wetsuits who will safe your ass from getting sting lol. my plan is to go in January (i know kind of contradicting from what i just said) but this is because of the summer season. i'm sorry that i don't have a better answer. also about the working bit, i think sydney actually is a bit overrated but that's just my opinion ahah, melb is such an awesome city and perth is also something you could consider (: anyway, have so much fun!
