I loved The Flying Pig Hostel in Amsterdam. It was super social and the staff was incredibly friendly! If anyone finds themselves in Amsterdam check them out!

Maverick's City Lodge Budapest- really private beds that you could actually sit up in!

Christopher's Inn Barcelona- Really lively bar area

Swanky Mint Hostel Zagreb- Super cosy kitchen, cool bar, and a pool, for a really reasonable price!

Love the Selina hostels! One just opened up next to the fieldschool I work at in Ecuador and it's the best place to escape the students 😂 And so sad, it seems Bounce hostel is permenantly closed! One of my favorites in Quito closed down recently too - BoutiQuito - it had the comfiest bunkbeds and best hot showers 😢

If you loved Xela, have you read Hard Red Spring?? It's a novel that pieces together the history of Xela through a few super unreliable narrators over time, it's so good!

    1. Happy Camper, Fort Cochin India (Loveliest owner ever, plus Oreo the cat)

    2. Hathai, Jodhpur India (Great views on the rooftop and some very competitive card games)

    3. Plus Prague, Czechia (More so to do with the fact it was New Years)

    4. Bankers Backpackers Hostel, Interlaken Switzerland (Good atmosphere, pretty)

    5. goStops Jaipur, India (aircon + fans, beds with curtains, cheap breakfast and a movie longue. Seriously good by Indian hostel standards).

My top hostel was sunset destination in Lisbon. Has a rooftop pool, free sangria hour (or half hour cant remember exactly) and incredibly well sound proofed rooms despite being in the centre of the city and party going on all around i slept like a baby

    In no particular order:

    1. Coffee Tree Boutique Hostel, Salento, Colombia

    2. Caoji Book Inn, Tainan, Taiwan

    3. Meander, Taipei, Taiwan

    4. Social Hostel 365, Sapporo, Japan

    5. Copenhagen Downtown Hostel, Denmark

For each of these, I’d say it’s down to a combination of good facilities and nice social experiences that I’ve had there. There are other hostels that I've stayed in with amazing facilities but no atmosphere – they don’t make the list!

It's great here - I'm not really sure why it's overlooked when Asia is so popular for travelling!
