Hi,
I am planning on doing a working holiday to New Zealand in my gap year, but am wondering when people think it is safe to do so?
Of course due to the pandemic travel is an issue and to be taken with caution. However NZ seems to be handling it well in comparison to other places, hence why I think this might be the most sensible place to go first during these times.
Does anyone have any recommendations on what to do for a working holiday in NZ? Where best to get a job that pays well and is enjoyable?
Good places to travel here?
Thanks :))

Hey! I'm from and living in New Zealand! Yeah, we were doing well the last few months but recently, we've been cautious about COVID-19 and had to go back into lockdown for a few weeks. It isn't looking too bad at the moment, so hopefully it'll be getting back to what it was last month (fingers crossed 🙂). In terms of where you want to get a job, as Christianne mentioned, would depend on which city you want to be in! All cities have their charms, and so will have different job opportunities. I know that most people often start in Auckland, Hamilton, Queenstown or Wellington initially because they are the larger cities, so it's helpful to get used to the Kiwi culture and more opportunities to find a job to start off with. Some also travel and experience different jobs through different seasons, such as working in the 'Bay of Islands' area during the summer, then heading down towards Rotorua (in the North Island), or maybe even Queenstown (in the South Island) during winter!
Not too sure about the pay and things because that will again, be dependent on the place you go to and the different opportunities that arise. 😊
I think it's still hard to say what country will be best to travel first unfortunately as rules are changing all the time!
Of course that's not to say you can't start planning anyway 😋I worked in Queenstown which was an epic lifestyle as it's a resort town surrounded my mountains. Not the best pay though. I imagine the cities are where you would want to go for the best paying jobs! Wellington is my favourite city :)
If you want beach life, I recommend Mount Manganui!
